One of our most memorable Sarasota wedding cakes from 2015 was that of local couple Nik and Erendira Wallenda. The “King of the High Wire” and member of the renowned acrobat family, “The Flying Wallendas,” Nik is best known for his daredevil tight-rope walks without a safety net.
The pair renewed their wedding vows 15 years after their modest courthouse wedding.
Nik originally proposed to Erendira while walking the tight rope in front of 32,000 people, but “had no money for a wedding and went to the courthouse,” the bride told PEOPLE magazine. The bride went on to add, “I didn’t even have a wedding dress. I had to borrow one from my mother-in-law.”
With TLC cameras in tow for her stunning Sarasota vow renewal for Say Yes to the Dress The Big Day, Erendira chose a a Kleinfield Bridal wedding dress.
To complement their shabby chic wedding, The Cake Zone was honored to create a gold, pearl and lace, ornate 4-tiered round wedding cake surrounded by cupcakes for the couple’s lavish, waterfront Ca’ d’Zan Mansion Ringling Museum Sarasota wedding reception.
To achieve the bride’s vision and to replicate the decorations and details on her wedding dress, we created homemade edible sugar lace, jewels, lace, burlap, ruffles and pearls. The couple choose and amaretto cake with raspberry buttercream frosting.
